"ISIS destroyed the well of the village, so people didn’t have water"
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Raise a Glass to Clean Water for All
Access to clean water is a basic human right, yet it is a rare resource in a water scarce region like Sinjar. Returnees to Sinjar must grapple with destroyed and polluted water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure. Few can afford to purchase bottled water. Many face severe health issues resulting from consuming contaminated water.
To counter this, Nadia’s Initiative is rebuilding the WASH infrastructure in villages, schools, clinics, and farms throughout Sinjar. Reconstruction work is complemented by water management trainings and hygiene awareness sessions aimed at empowering the community to independently manage their own water sources and lead healthier lives.
