Establishing Inclusive Learning Environments for Disabled Students in Sinjar

To establish more inclusive learning environments in Sinjar, Nadia’s Initiative provided disabled students with electric wheelchairs to improve their learning experience. Electric wheelchairs will enable these students to stay connected with their friends and teachers, providing opportunities for learning beyond the classroom.

Nadia Murad Celebrates the Autumn Assembly in Sinjar

This year, NI founder Nadia Murad returned to Sinjar to attend the first Autumn Assembly that was held at the sacred site of Lalish since the genocide began. On her way there, Nadia was able to check in on bright young students returning to a rehabilitated school in Tabba village, as well as the progress of construction on NI’s brand new medical center supported by the French government.

Nadia’s Initiative’s construction of the brand new Mahmoodiya Primary School is nearly complete. Construction crews have begun putting up drywall, laying tiles, concreting outdoor areas, installing electrical networks, and painting the school.

After 6 months of construction, furnishing, and procuring over a thousand books, Al Walid High School library is now accessible to the public. The library was designed to provide both students and community members with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and rediscover their love of learning.

Empowering Teachers in Sinjar through Professional Development

After ISIS’ destruction of the region in 2014, many full-time teachers moved out of Sinjar, which left a big gap in the education sector. Nadia’s Initiative is improving volunteer lecturers’ ability to effectively support students in Sinjar by facilitating comprehensive trainings in student-centric teaching methods and child protection for 600 teachers.

The leaders of Tabba village petitioned authorities for years to rebuild their local school, to no avail. Nadia’s Initiative stepped in to respond and protect the community’s basic right to education, by building a brand new primary school.
