Nadia's Initiative Launches Interim Reparations Program for Yazidi Survivors of ISIS Captivity
“Reparations cannot buy back all that survivors have lost, but they can help survivors build a new life for themselves and access the rights to which all people are entitled.” - Nadia Murad
Reparations are a critical means of regaining survivors' agencies. Yazidis have waited over seven years and cannot wait another seven to restart their lives and revive their community.
Nadia's Initiative and the Global Survivors Fund are pioneering the implementation of an interim reparations program for Yazidi survivors of ISIS captivity with the goal of providing access to individual and collective interim reparative measures. Survivors are at the center of this project, which they co-created. Measures will include financial compensation, livelihoods packages, and support for access to psychosocial, medical, education, and legal aid. This program also aims to amplify the participation of Yazidi survivors in the implementation of Iraq’s Yazidi Female Survivors Law.
