Nadia's Initiative Beneficiary Details Impact of Education Project on Future Prospects
Samira and her family survived numerous challenges on their way to escape violence during ISIS’ invasion of Sinjar. Samira remembers, “After a week of suffering, hunger, and thirst, we escaped to Kurdistan through a safe road.”
After relocating to IDP camps, the situation did not improve. “We were IDPs and I felt a lot of suffering because of our displacement circumstances.” After years of displacement, Samira’s family decided to return to Sinjar and start a new life in Sinuni.
Samira is passionate about making positive changes in her community and promoting peace in the conflict areas like Sinjar. For these reasons, she decided to join the Jesuit World Learning’s Peace Leader Certification Course, which is supported by Nadia’s Initiative. Through this program, Samira has had the chance to learn about how to restore and maintain peace and world leaders who inspire her to help her community.
“This program helped me a lot and made great positive changes in my own life and in the community. In the near future, I want to see Sinjar as a safe place where people can access a wide range of services, including improved education for children, a greater emphasis on feminism, and preservation of cultural centers.”
