Yazidi Youth Details Impact of Access to Higher Education in Sinjar

Ghazwan, like many other young Yazidis in his community, is motivated to improve his skill sets to enhance his job prospects and better support his family.

He strongly believes that studying English is a stepping stone to new opportunities in his professional and educational pursuits.

Ghazwan enrolled in the JWL center's GEL (Global English Language) course when he was at Kanke camp.

"Since I started learning English, my life has changed dramatically. I am now able to communicate with people from all over the globe and apply for jobs in any country. "

After taking three foundational courses, Ghazwan has decided to broaden his academic horizons by enrolling in a professional English language certification program (Creative Writing and Design) at the JWL center in Sinuni.

"I hope to get a professional certificate and contribute to the community with the skills I gained from this course. In addition, I want to encourage local youth to enroll in these education programs. I believe that studying English can assist me and other youth in my community in acquiring a job, so that we can support our families and our community during this difficult time.”

By restoring access to higher education in Sinjar, Nadia’s Initiative is providing Yazidi youth with the chance to improve their skills and work toward brighter futures.
