Nadia's Initiative Provides Emergency Water Support to Recent Returnees to Sinjar

Thousands of displaced Yazidis are returning to their homes in Sinjar for the first time in six years. One young woman returning to her home in Sinjar told NI staff, “We have had difficulty accessing clean water. The water in the villages is not drinkable. Nor is it good for cooking.” As the COVID- 19 pandemic continues, the deficiencies in Sinjar’s water and sanitation infrastructure inhibit residents from practicing life-saving measures as simple as hand-washing.

NI is addressing this urgent need with an emergency water tank project in partnership with Youth Bridge Organization and funded by USAID. To date, 250 water tanks have been delivered and installed in South Sinjar.
