Nadia's Initiative Furnishes and Reopens Alqahtaniya High School
"We didn’t have a school building. For a year, we had to teach our high school students in a primary school facility," says Darwish Barakat, principal of Alqahtaniya High School.
To accommodate the Sinjar region's need for secondary education, Nadia's Initiative recently rehabilitated Alqahtaniya High School, built a library, furnished the school, and helped reopen it. For the first time in years, more than 130 local students will be able to return to school in a safe and nurturing environment.
Nadia’s Initiative understands that creating learning environments that encourage children to improve their reading skills and engage in their curricula is critical to helping them heal from their trauma. Investing in quality education for Yazidi children is an investment in the future of the entire community.
This project was funded by the Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation.
