Nadia's Initiative Farming Beneficiary is Hopeful for Future
While thousands of Yazidis have been able to return to their homeland in Sinjar, Iraq, the obstacles to restarting their lives are immense - especially for women like Adlan, a widowed mother of five.
“Life became very difficult. I was under psychological and financial pressure. We couldn’t find any job opportunities in the area - especially for women.”
Adlan and her family live in the mountainous region of Sinjar where there are almost no services. They have farmed for generations, but displacement and destruction left Adlan’s family without the resources to cultivate their farmland. That’s where NI came in. Adlan enrolled in our project to support female-headed farming households. Through the program, Adlan received irrigated vegetable farming equipment, including seeds, fertilizers, tools, and training, so that she can rebuild and grow her family’s livelihood.
“Now everything is changed. I have a job and it will be a source of income for my family. This project has given me great hope. I personally consider this to be one of the most successful projects to support women in the area and provide them with income.”
This project was financed by the GIZ commissioned by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
