Nadia's Initiative Farming Beneficiary Details Impact of Support
After surviving ISIS captivity, Zahree returned with her husband and five children to their home in Sinjar only to find it destroyed. ISIS had demolished the family’s water well and stolen their money, property, and agricultural tools. With their livelihoods lost, Zahree had no hope of sending her children to school.
Nadia’s Initiative strives to empower women like Zahree by providing the tools and resources for them to build sustainable livelihoods. As part of our project to support female-headed farming households, Zahree received a new greenhouse to restart the family’s agricultural business, as well as a home garden for growing nutritious, fresh greens to feed her family.
“This project impacted our lives. We will have a guaranteed future with this greenhouse.” With her renewed income, Zahree can finally pay to send her children to school and give them a brighter future.
“I, personally, have greater hope with this project. We hope this type of support continues in our area - especially for survivors because they don’t have a regular income.”
This project was financed by the GIZ commissioned by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
