Female Farming Beneficiary Describes Impact of Nadia's Initiative Project
Khokhi is the head of her household of 8 people. Her family has been farmers for generations, but their livelihoods were threatened forever when ISIS occupied Sinjar.
“After ISIS’s attacks, our livelihoods were destroyed. We struggled for many years without tangible support.”
Nadia’s Initiative set out to change this lack of support for farmers like Khokhi by establishing a project to equip female-headed farming households with greenhouses, irrigation equipment, dairy cows, and more. Through this program, Khokhi was able to revitalize her farm lands. Her fields are already yielding an impressive crop and she has begun selling vegetables!
“I have already seen the positive results from this activity through selling my products. This project has helped to make us self-reliant once again and has reduced the burden on my family.”
According to Khokhi, the benefits of the project extend far beyond her own family. She is witnessing a ripple of change throughout her village.
“This project has improved the morale of many of the women in the community. We are grateful that community leaders have supported this activity and that there is more acceptance of women being the primary income earners.“
