Nadia's Initiative Builds New Primary School in Bahrava Village, Sinjar

Like many villages in the Sinjar region, residents of Bahrava village have been struggling to rebuild their lives after nearly six years of displacement and a lack of government support. Children in Bahrava village were unable to access education in a safe environment because their mud school was completely destroyed during ISIS’s attacks in 2014. Families who were able would have to drive their children long distances to attend schools in other villages. Children whose families could not afford to, went without schooling.

As a part of our ongoing efforts to restore education to returnee communities in Sinjar, Nadia’s Initiative built a brand new primary school in Bahrava village. Education is a key component to rebuilding the Yazidi community and improving the lives of Yazidi children who have already endured tremendous trauma and instability. Now, children in the area will be able to walk to school everyday.

The building of the new Bahrava Primary School was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Belgian government.
