Galiya's Greenhouse - Beneficiary of NI's Women's Farming Project

Galiya survived ISIS captivity but could not make a survivable living and support her two children in her homeland Sinjar. “After ISIS took control of Sinjar district, our property and agricultural tools were taken. They intentionally demolished our water wells and farms. We have been living in extreme poverty for the last 6 years,” Galiya explained.

Nadia’s Initiative knew that if Galiya had the tools to rebuild her farm, she would build a brighter future for her children and entire village. That’s why we created a project to provide Galiya and over 430 other women like her with agricultural assistance including the provision of greenhouses, kitchen gardens, open field vegetable farming materials, dairy cows, and comprehensive training in maintenance and cultivation.

“This greenhouse will play a big role in changing my family’s life and improving our situation. This project has given me great hope that our family income will grow for the future. I also hope that Nadia’s Initiative and Dorcas continue projects like this in our area because many survivors and widows need them.”

This project was funded by GIZ and commissioned by the Federal Republic of Germany.
