NI Hosts Consultative Session with Key Officials at the Women's Center
Navigating the process of filing and following up on government claims in Iraq—particularly for compensation—can be daunting and highly complex. To support families of genocide victims and the broader community, Nadia’s Initiative (NI) organized a consultative session at the NI Women’s Center, bringing together government representatives from four key directorates responsible for victims’ affairs.
The NI team advertised the session in advance, ensuring that families of victims from various areas across Sinjar had the opportunity to attend. The event, chaired by NI, drew approximately 180 community members—both men and women—who came seeking guidance on claims processes.
Government representatives from the Directorate of Martyrs in Nineveh, the Directorate of Compensation, the Court of Personal Affairs in Sinjar, and the General Directorate for Survivors Affairs attended the session. Participants raised numerous concerns about their compensation cases, with a particular focus on the challenges of gathering required documentation. Officials from the relevant departments provided clarifications, addressed individual concerns, and, in many cases, scheduled follow-up appointments to help attendees advance their claims.
The session produced immediate and tangible results, with many participants requesting similar opportunities for engagement in the future. Beyond providing holistic support to women and girls in the region, the Women’s Center serves as a key venue where the community can access essential resources and gain insight into pressing issues affecting their daily lives.
