Nadia's Initiative is Rehabilitating Malack Sheikh Hassan Temple in Sinjar
In 2014, the vast majority of Yazidi temples in Sinjar were destroyed by ISIS. It is estimated that ISIS destroyed at least 28 religious sites and historical buildings throughout Northern Iraq. Destruction was part of ISIS’s genocidal strategy to “culturally cleanse” the Yazidi community.
Yazidi cultural and religious traditions have been passed down through history orally. In the face of ISIS's genocidal campaign and its ongoing effects, there is an urgent need to preserve Yazidi cultural and religious heritage.
Thanks to the support of the ALIPH Foundation, Nadia’s Initiative is working with Sanabel NGO to rehabilitate Malack Sheikh Hassan Temple in Gabara village. The temple is being rehabilitated in close consultation with the local community.
