Nadia’s Initiative condemns recent hate speech and false accusations targeting the Yazidi community in Sinjar.

Nadia’s Initiative, the organization founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Nadia Murad, is appalled and alarmed by the recent hate speech targeting the Yazidi community in Iraq. 

Last month, Yazidis were incorrectly accused of burning a mosque in Sinjar during a peaceful demonstration. 

Despite confirmation and assurances by the Sunni Endowment that the Rahman Mosque was not burnt or damaged, old pictures circulated online.

In the past few days there have been thousands of posts on social media inciting violence against Yazidis, calling them infidels and regurgitating harmful tropes about devil worship.  

Nadia Murad, President of Nadia’s Initiative said:

“Nearly nine years after the ISIS perpetrated genocide of the Yazidi people, it is heart-breaking to see the resurgence of their violent and discriminatory rhetoric.”

“Words have the capacity to completely dehumanize. Genocide begins with words and with othering. It begins with false flags and fake news.”

“For Yazidi people to once again be subjected to these dangerous and false narratives is traumatic for a community still trying to heal from the recent genocide.” 

“The dehumanizing narrative about the Yazidi people must be broken; tackling hate speech is everyone’s responsibility.”

“We will not see peace in the region until hate, in all forms, is confronted at every turn.” 

Nadia’s Initiative is calling on political and religious authorities to quickly condemn and clamp down on this language before it escalates into physical violence.

Although the world’s focus has moved away from Iraq and the genocide, the Yazidi people remain vulnerable, traumatised and in much the same situation as they were in 2014. 

For nearly nine years, genocide and sexual violence survivors have been kept in IDP camps. This is patently unsustainable and both Iraqi and Kurdish authorities have a moral duty to restore security and basic services in Sinjar. Only then can displaced families return safely to their homeland. 

Surviving Yazidi’s need to feel safe as they rebuild their lives, and trust that those who perpetrated violence against them will not be able to threaten them further.

This means there needs to be proper screening of families returning to the region, to ensure ISIS members do not return without facing justice.

It is incumbent upon all authorities to restore security so Yazidis will not be subjected to further violence.

Nadia’s Initiative has been working to rebuild and rehabilitate Sinjar, but support from the international community is still needed. 

Moreover, there will not be stability and sustained progress until the Iraqi and Kurdish authorities end their dispute over the region.

تدين “مبادرة نادية” خطابات الكراهية الأخيرة والاتهامات الكاذبة التي تستهدف المجتمع الإيزيدي في قضاء سنجار شمال العراق.

“مبادرة نادية” هي منظمة أسستها "نادية مراد" الحائزة على جائزة نوبل للسلام، تشعر بالفزع والانزعاج من خطابات الكراهية الأخيرة الذي استهدفت المجتمع الإيزيدي في العراق، في الايام الماضية، تم اتهام الايزيديون بشكل غير صحيح على انهم قاموا بحرق جامع للمسلمين في قضاء سنجار خلال تظاهرة سلمية.

على الرغم من تأكيد الوقف السني بأن جامع الرحمن في قضاء سنجار لم يحترق أو يضرر، تم تداول صور قديمة عبر الإنترنت على إنها صور جديدة للجامع وقامت جماعات متطرفة في العراق واقليم كردستان العراق بشن هجمة اعلامية ممنهجة ضد الايزيديين.

في الأيام القليلة الماضية، كانت هناك آلاف من المشاركات على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي التي تحرض على العنف ضد الايزيديين، ووصفتهم بالكفار ورددت شعارات عنصرية ضدهم وتم التحريض عليهم ووصفوهم بعبدة الشيطان.

علقت "نادية مراد"، رئيسة مبادرة نادية على الأحداث الاخيرة ووصفتها بالخطيرة :-

"بعد تسع سنوات تقريبا من ارتكاب د1عش الإبادة الجماعية ضد الشعب الإيزيدي، من المفجع أن نرى عودة خطابهم العنيف والتمييزي ضد الايزيديين مرة أخرى".

"الكلمات لديها القدرة على تجريد الأنسان من الإنسانية تماما"، " تبدأ الإبادة الجماعية بالكلمات وتبدأ الحروب بالأعلام الكاذب والأخبار المزيفة."

"بالنسبة للمجتمع الإيزيدي أن يتعرض مرة أخرى لهذه الادعاءات الخطيرة والكاذبة أمر مؤلم لمجتمع لا يزال يحاول التعافي من الإبادة الجماعية الأخيرة."

"يجب كسر السرد اللا_إنساني عن الشعب الإيزيدي؛ معالجة خطاب الكراهية هي مسؤولية الجميع"، "لن نرى السلام في المنطقة حتى تتم مواجهة الكراهية، بجميع أشكالها، في كل منعطف."

تدعو "مبادرة نادية" السلطات السياسية والدينية في العراق واقليم كردستان العراق إلى إدانة هذه اللغة وقمعها بسرعة قبل أن تتصاعد إلى عنف جسدي، على الرغم من أن تركيز العالم قد ابتعد عن العراق والإبادة الجماعية، إلا أن الشعب الإيزيدي لا يزال ضعيفا ومصابا بصدمات كما كان في عام 2014.

منذ ما يقرب من تسع سنوات، تم توطين الناجين من الإبادة الجماعية والعنف الجنسي في مخيمات النازحين داخليا، وهذا امر غير مستدام بشكل واضح وعلى كل من السلطات العراقية والكردية واجب أخلاقي لاستعادة الأمن والخدمات الأساسية واعادة اعمار مدينة سنجار وتعويض المواطنين لتسهيل العودة الطوعية للاهالي الى مناطقهم، عندها فقط يمكن للعائلات النازحة العودة بأمان إلى وطنها.

البقاء على قيد الحياة ك_ايزيديين إلى الشعور بالأمان أثناء إعادة بناء حياتهم، والثقة في أن أولئك الذين ارتكبوا العنف ضدهم لن يكونوا قادرين على تهديدهم أكثر أو مرة أخرى.

هذا يعني أنه يجب إجراء فحص أمني مناسب للعائلات العائدة إلى المنطقة والتأكد من عدم مشاركتهم في الابادة الايزيدية، لضمان عدم عودة أعضاء د1عش دون مواجهة العدالة.

يتعين على جميع السلطات استعادة الأمن وتوفيره حتى لا يتعرض الإيزيديون لمزيد من العنف.

تعمل "مبادرة نادية" على إعادة بناء سنجار وإعادة تأهيل المجتمع الإيزيدي، ولكن لا تزال هناك حاجة ماسة لتقديم المزيد من الدعم والمساعدات من قبل المجتمع الدولي.

علاوة على ذلك، لن يكون هناك استقرار وتقدم مستدام حتى تنهي السلطات العراقية والكردية نزاعهما على المنطقة.
