Children in Sinjar Develop Resiliency & Learn to Heal from Trauma
Early childhood education is not easy to come by in the Sinjar region of Iraq or in the IDP camps in the Kurdistan region.
Years of exposure to violence and conflict have had an adverse impact on Yazidi children's ability to nurture resiliency, develop social skills, and heal from trauma.
To foster a sense of normalcy, as well as a nurturing environment for children, Nadia’s Initiative is working with local implementing partner Sunrise NGO to reopen Sinjar Kindergarten. This project will rehabilitate, equip, and staff the kindergarten.
Once the space is reopened, it will provide much-needed playtime for young children, as well as resilience group sessions and psychosocial support sessions for youth in the area.
This project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency with funds from Austrian Development Cooperation.
