Nadia met with President Marcon on November 5, 2017, at the Elysee Palace in Paris. Nadia briefed the President on a number of issues, including; her personal story and the struggle of thousands of women who were taken captive by ISIS in 2014. She also discussed the humanitarian situation of Yazidis and other religious minorities in Iraq, the dire state of security in the Sinjar region, and the need to de-mine and rebuild the Yazidi homeland. The President affirmed that France attaches great importance to the situation of victims of Yazidis and other ethnic and religious minorities who face persecution in Iraq and Syria. He noted France’s commitment to the Yazidi cause, accountability of ISIS, and the brave struggle led by Nadia Murad. He committed to providing humanitarian support to facilitate a safe return of Yazidis to their homeland. President Macron indicated that France will take concrete actions with partners to protect minorities in both Iraq and Syria.
