President Marcon received today at the Elysee Palace in Paris a delegation consisted of Nadia Murad, UNODC GW ambassador, Abid Shamdeen, Yazda director of Government Affairs, Kerry Propper, Yazda board member and advocate for Genocide victims, Grégoire Théry, Executive Director of Cap international and member of Nadia Team, and Elizabeth Schaeffer Brown, a founding member of Nadia's Initiative.
Nadia briefed the president on a number of issues, including; her personal story and struggle of thousands of women who fell into ISIS captivity in 2014, the situation of Yazidis and other religious minorities in Iraq, the current crises in Iraq and the security needs of all components of Iraq, the humanitarian situation and the need for de-mining and establishing an international fund to rebuild the areas.
The president affirmed that France attaches great importance to the situation of victims of Yazidis and other ethnic and religious minorities who face persecution in Iraq and Syria.
He affirmed France commitment to the Yazidi cause, accountability of ISIS, and the brave struggle led by Nadia Murad. He also affirmed a commitment to take initiatives, including, de-mining of the Sinjar Region and to provide humanitarian support to facilitate a safe return of Yazidis to their homeland. He indicates that France will take concrete actions with partners in favor of protection of minorities in both Iraq and Syria.
